Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy is best known in the history of Spider-Man (and in the history of comics) for her death. The hero's girlfriend wasn't supposed to die - but Gwen did, and somehow has remained in the coffin. Although she's been cloned, the original Gwen Stacy never returned. For Peter Parker, the impact of her death was second only to the death of Uncle Ben. It would be an understatement to say that Peter is haunted by Gwen's murder.

In the beginning, Gwen went to Standard High School in New York City (not Mid- Town High where Peter went) where she was described as the "beauty queen". She graduated and went to Empire State University as a biochemistry major where she met classmate Peter Parker. Her first impression of Peter was a mixture of attraction with disdain for his apparent disinterest in her (Peter was preoccupied by the hospitalization of his Aunt May).

Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Gwen and Peter grew closer together. However, Peter's famous introduction to the mysterious "girl-next-door" Mary Jane Watson distracted him from Gwen and led her to date Harry Osborn out of jealousy. MJ and Gwen both competed for Peter's affections. But eventually, Peter chose Gwen, and MJ ended up with Harry. Peter loved Gwen more deeply than he had ever loved any woman before.

Gwen lived with her father, police Capt. George Stacy. Spider-Man's interactions with her father helped dispel misconceptions she had towards the alter-ego of her boyfriend. Though her father had his suspicions of Peter, Gwen did not discover Peter's secret identity. Once, Peter revealed his identity to Gwen and his friends while suffering from a high fever (Amazing Spider-Man #87). He later convinced everyone that he wasn't in his right mind through the assistance of the Prowler showing up wearing a Spider-Man costume.

After a battle with Doctor Octopus (Death of Captain Stacy), Gwen's father was accidentally killed by falling debris from the melee. In Captain Stacy's last words, he called Spider-Man "Peter" and asked him to take care of his daughter. Gwen felt Spider-Man bore responsibility for her father's death. Desperate to see Spider-Man punished, she put her support behind Sam Bullit, a hard line "law and order" man that was running for District Attorney. He was secretly a racist, and got caught by police after he arranged to have Robbie Robertson silenced for knowing too much about him.

Gwen and Peter continued dating. Traveling to the Savage Land in Gog! (Amazing #103-#104) with Peter, Gwen was captured by Kraven the Hunter who intended to make her his queen. Spider-Man and Ka-Zar rescued Gwen from Kraven and the monster Gog.

Gwen's final adventure took place when she was captured by Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin. The Goblin captured Gwen to use as a hostage against Spider-Man. In Amazing Spider-Man #121, Spider-Man found the Green Goblin with Gwen atop the George Washington Bridge (note: the artwork showed the Brooklyn Bridge). Gwen lay unconscious in a state of shock. During a battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, the Goblin knocked Gwen off the bridge. Though Spider-Man caught her with his webbing before hitting the water below, Gwen died in the fall. A "snap" by her neck implied that perhaps the jolt of the sudden stop broke her neck. (Note: The broken neck was confirmed in Amazing Spider-Man #207, though this sound effect has been taken out in some reprints of this story, leaving the matter rather ambiguous.)

Gwen's death drove Spider-Man to nearly kill the Goblin. Though he stopped himself from pummeling the Goblin to death, the Goblin impaled himself on his own glider, killing himself (temporarily, albeit.)

Gwen's teacher, Professor Miles Warren (a.k.a. the Jackal), was secretly in love with Gwen. Distraught over her death, Warren created a clone of Gwen using cell samples he had kept of his beloved student. Gwen Stacy's Clone is still alive to date, but mostly remains outside of Peter Parker's life.

Recently, two children of Gwen Stacy have shown up. Sarah Stacy and Gabriel Stacy were born to Gwen in Paris France, to keep them away from their father, Norman Osborn. Gwen had been drawn to Norman's power and felt bad for him when he seemed so distraught by his son Harry's drug addiction. Gwen had an affair with him, something she soon regretted once she realized how ruthless he was.

It had long been thought that Norman had come to Peter's apartment looking for Spider-Man, but had really come for Gwen to force her to give him the children. The twins were only at seven months gestation when they were born, but seemed to have aged to full term infants. It was found that the Goblin serum in Norman's DNA had accelerated their aging. Even though Gabriel and Sarah appear to be in their twenties, they are really only children.

While it has been many years since Gwen's death, Peter keeps her close to his heart. After saving a gangster named Forelli from the creature known as Digger, Spidey was paid $10,000 for his services. Not liking to take money from a murderer, Peter anonymously donated the money to build the Gwen Stacy Memorial Library. He has also visited her grave when he needs to think.

She returned to New York and never spoke of this incident to anyone. She would move to Florida. When, she found out that May had suffered a stroke, she returned to New York permanently. May Reilly Parker

Having suffered a tough life ever since a child, May Reilly has been a survivor through thick and thin. At a very young age, her father's brother Horace was diagnosed with cancer and Horace pleaded with her father to kill him instead of letting him die a long and painful death. Her father ended up by killing his brother. Later on, her father ended up by leaving her and his wife. This would lead to May's mother blaming May for his departure. Years later, she would befriend Anna Watson.
One day she would fall in love with a rich man named Johnny Jerome and he would ask her to marry him, to which she responded with a 'yes'.

But a madly in love Ben Parker tells May that Johnny is a criminal. May believes that Ben is jealous and continues to date Johnny until he is caught by the police. May decides to change her attitude on 'Mr. Right', he doesn't have to be rich and powerful. So she begins to date Ben. The new couple would spend a lot of time with Ben's brother Richard and girlfriend Mary. They'd quickly become friends. Then the day arrived when they got married. Despite their love for children, they never felt the need to have any, espcially when Richard and Mary would have a baby in Peter. When a Rich and Mary's plane crashes, Ben and May are forced to take care of baby Peter and raise him by themselves. She would be overprotective towards Peter, but she only did this because she loved him so much.
After almost 15 years of taking care of her nephew, May's husband is shot dead when a burglar enters the Parker home looknig for remains of an old jewel heist. When May hears that Spider-Man caught the burglar, she feels that Spider-Man used that event to catapult his name to fame, thus making her distrust and loathe the Wall-Crawler ever since. One day, she would meet Anna's niece Mary Jane and she thought that she was the ideal girl for Peter. In fact, she was the one who set-up Peter to meet Mary Jane for the first time, because she knew that those two were meant to be with each other.
Her romance life is almost non-existant since, but she almost married Otto Octavius (a.k.a. Dr. Octopus). That was all part of a plot for Ock to gain valuable land that May owned. But something happened that Ock did not forsee, May understood him and he fell in love with her. He would show a lot of affection towards her later on after this incident. Later on, May would meet a man named Nathan Lubensky. Despite a gambling problem and his health deteriorating quite rapidly, May agreed to accept his mariage proposal. But one day at an outdoor show in Manhattan, the Vulture would strike and he would unknownly kidnap Nathan (a man who had helped the Vulture in the past) and take him up in the air. That would cause Nathan's heart to stop.
Many months later, the Vulture would find out that he's dying, he wanted forgiveness from May for killing Nathan. May, at first wouldn't give it to him, but in the end she did forgive him. Before that, the Vulture took Peter hostage. Peter manage to change into Spider-Man and defeat the villain. Spidey returned home with the Vulture so he can apologize to May for causing all that trouble. May asked Spidey, where is Peter. Spidey said that he's on his way. May kisses the hero. Then when May turns around, she sees him on the couch (a bit tired). Later, she would forgive Spider-Man for saying all those bad things about him during all those years.
When Peter's "parents" returned, she truly didn't believe that they were the real thing. She was the only one who doubted them. Shortly thereafter, she'd suffer a stroke. Unknowningly to everyone, Norman Osborn would "kidnap" her, and have her replaced by a dying actress. "May" would then awake from her coma and reveal to Peter that she knew for a long time that Peter has been Spider-Man. Then she'd die in her home. A year later (Marvel time), Spider-Man would figure out Osborn's plan and May would wake-up from her coma. Apparently, her coma caused some brain damage, because she doesn't remember forgiving Spider-Man. She is a very smart woman, who can be naive at times, but is insightful. She is currently living in her home at Forrest Hills.
On a night in which Peter has fought one of the most gruelling fights of his life, aunt May decides to stop by the Parker pad and what she finds out will change the rest of her life; she finds out that Peter is Spider-Man. She talks it out with her nephew and while she might not like it, she accepts the fact that her son is a hero and is even more proud of him than ever before. She even tries to convince newspapers like the Daily Bugle to stop publishing negative stories about that 'nice super-hero' Spider-Man. In an attempt to move on, she would decide to sell her house in Forrest Hills and rent an apartment in NYC, in order to be closer to Peter and MJ. More so than ever, May Parker is the heart and soul of Peter's life and serves as a reminder of why he does what he does.

Richard Parker and Mary Fitzpatrick Parker

They are US counter spies who infiltrated the Red Skull's organization. When they were discovered, the Skull had them killed and framed for treason. Years later, Spidey would clear their names. Right before that mission, Mary gave birth to Peter and had Richard's brother, Ben, take care of young Peter. Several years later, the Chameleon (who's working for the late Harry Osborn) would build robots who look and act like Richard and Mary Parker. His purpose is for doing this is to discover the identity of Spider-Man. The Chameleon who learned from Harry Osborn, who died a few months earlier, that Peter might know the ID of Spider-Man. So Peter might confide in his parents, and they would tell the Chameleon. Peter discovered this and defeated his "parents". Read more...

Benjamin Reilly

When Miles Warren created a clone of Spider-Man to create confusion in the life of Peter Parker, Ben Reilly was born.
Being the second clone to have been created by Warren (Kaine being the first. Due to a large scar on Kaine's face, Warren couldn't use him to be the 'chosen clone'), the clone was supposed to fight the real one till someone dies. After a battle with his real self, an explosion would knock him unconscious. The Jackal would put something in him in order to emulate death. Then Peter would take his body and put it down a smokestack. When, the clone would awake, he'd would go back to "his" apartment, thinking that he was the real thing, but he'd find Peter with MJ. The clone would then come to the realization that he's the clone, and not the real thing.

After going around the country, the clone would adopt the name Ben Reilly ("Ben" from Uncle Ben, and "Reilly" is aunt May's maiden name). During all of this time, Ben would meet a brilliant scientist named Seward Trainer, a man whom he would confide everything to. Living the life of a nomad, Ben moved from town to town until he arrived in Salt Lake City and got a job with at a local university where he would meet waitress Janine. The two would fall in love but what he didn't know was that Janine was a wanted killer. After a near-death event, they would reveal their secrets to each other. During this time, the failed Spider-Man clone Kaine would stalk him in an attempt to make his life miserable, simply because he believes that Ben is the original and that he wants to destroy the life of the man whom he owes his existance to. Janine would leave Ben as she would continue to run away from the law. Over the next few years in exile, Kaine, would kill hundreds of people by displaying his version of 'justice'.
Also, Ben always kept in touch with aunt May, and probably he told her that he was an old friend of Ben or something. Five years after leaving New York, Ben would call May, he'd ask her how she was, but May was bothered once she saw the headline of the Daily Bugle newspaper (it said that Lance Bannon had died). She hung up the phone. Sensing that she was sick Ben would decide to return to NYC again.
He would later find out that May had suffered a stroke. He and Peter (in his "I AM SPIDER" days) met and they fought for a while. Next time they would meet, Peter would be "normal" again and he'd receive Ben pretty well. By that time, Ben had become a super-hero, who Bugle reporter Ken Ellis dubbed the "Scarlet Spider", which Ben hated.
After "May's" miraculous recovery, Ben would leave NY. But just before he left, Peter was arrested for murders that he didn't commit (they were commited by Kaine, who had Peter's fingerprints, since he's his clone). Ben decided to stay and help him out instead of abandoning his life in NYC. After that whole ordeal, Kaine confessed that he commited those murders which left Peter to be found innocent. Newly released Peter would take part of an experiment conducted by Seward to see who's the clone and who's the real thing. Peter would turn out to be the clone, and Ben would be the real Peter Parker.
Despite an early negative reaction by Peter, the two would become brothers. When Peter decided to retire and move to Portland, Ben was offered to become Spider-Man, but he refused and continued being the Scarlet Spider. Since he was the new hero in town, no one really knew what to think of him, so Doc Ock II would frame the Scarlet one for all these crimes, so Ben was forced to dawn the Spider-Man costume again.
He designed his own costume, and a new Spider-Man was born. And to avoid being confused by people who knew Peter, he dyed his hair blonde. Ben would then get a job at a little coffee shop called the Daily Grind. He would befriend the patrons a single mother and her son Devon, cafe-fly Buzz, rich (& possible mutant) Desiree Winthrop. Ben would date a woman by the name Jessica Carradine, who would turn out to be the daughter of the burglar who shot uncle Ben. But they had a little relationship which ended in a good way.
When Peter and MJ would return to NY, Peter and Ben's friendship would be as tight as ever. They'd spend almost all the time together and become the best of friends. Spider-Man did things on his own, until Peter's powers started to come back, unexplicably. Together, they would stop Sentinels from harming innocents during the 'Onslaught'. Later, Seward Trainer would then suddenly disappear and work for a small subsidiary of Osborn Industries called Multivex. Ben would one day find out that his former girlfriend Janine is in NYC and the two would continue their romantic ways, but Kaine would try to put a stop to this, once again, but this time Ben would use words instead of fists to send Kaine to the Vault, and also, Janine would finally send herself to jail for the sins of her past.
Right after Ben discovers that he would be the godfather of baby May, his entire life would come to screaching halt. Ben would find out that Seward was unwillingly working for a returning Osborn and Seward rigged the experiment that told everyone that Ben was the real thing. In fact Peter was the real thing and Ben was a clone. In the end, Ben would get being impaled by Osborn's Goblin glider. Ben would die and then turn to dust. At his funeral, Peter, as Spider-Man, would scatter Ben's ashes around the city in order to always 'keep an eye on it'.

May Watson Parker As SpiderGirl

The child of Peter and Mary Jane is possibly deceased. With the current writing team and editor, we will probably never see this May ever again. In a possible future, May is a mutant who's powers start developping once she becomes a teenager. She has the same powers that her father had, except she is more agile, but her strength is nowhere as near as her father's. May also has some other powers that Spidey never had. She has become Spider-Girl and wears her "uncle" Ben (Reilly)'s Spidey suit. Read more...

Mary Jane Watson Parker

Born in Pittsburgh, Mary Jane, along with her sister Gayle, was abused both physically and verbally by her father. When her mother dies from an illness, Mary Jane decides to run away by not having her dreams dashed by taking care of a family (just as it happened to her sister and mother). That would lead to her fearing commitment for many years to come. Her mother's death would result in her running away and moving in with the only member of her family that she likes her aunt Anna in New York. For several months, May tried to set-up a blind date between Peter and Mary Jane. The two would come up with a whole bunch of excuses in order not to see one another. When the time fainally came, Peter was shocked at her beauty since he wasn't expecting much.
Earlier, on the night that uncle Ben died to be more exact, MJ saw Spider-Man coming out of Peter's room, and this sparked her an odd interest in Peter, but she was scared to see him, which explained why she didn't want to see Peter for a while.
She'd go out with Peter briefly, but they would go their separate ways when they're all at ESU. There, she'd date Harry Osborn, but they would break-up, which would lead up to Harry's addiction to LSD. Something that would make her feel very guilty. When she was going out with Harry, MJ had her eye on Peter, but Peter wasn't paying too much attention because he was going out with Gwen Stacy.
She would show some feeling, other than just wanting to have fun (for probably one of the first time) when Gwen died. MJ would show compassion towards Peter which would lead to them becoming a regular couple. Peter would propose to MJ for the first time, but she would decline the offer by saying that she's the type of girl who isn't happy with just one man. She would then go to Florida to spend time with Anna.

A year later, she would return to NY, for good, to find her ex-boyfriend in the arms of another woman. Despite that, the two maintained a close relationship together. She had a weird romance with Peter, because Peter would date MJ but Spider-Man would go out with the Black Cat.
One day, the villain named the Puma would attack Spider-Man at Peter Parker's apartment. The problem : MJ was talking with Peter, while Peter had sensed the Puma. he had to lock MJ out of his apartment, before the villain could attack. When he was managed to turn into Spider-Man (due to the alien symbiote) and take the fight outside. Mary Jane would then break the door down and find an empty apartment. When Peter would return back from the fight, MJ would be awaiting him and she would have a revelation for him; she knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. This would be the beginning of a new Mary Jane. Her revelation of past abuse would bring complete honesty between the two. She discovered why she was always running away from love; the unhappy marriages of her sister and mother, left a scar upon her. Unlike her mother and sister, she doesn't want to give up her dream, just to make someone else happy.
At times, they would try to convince each other that they were only friends, but they couldn't deny their love for each other for much longer. Peter would propose for a second time, the response would be the same again. But after confronting her father and putting her past behind her, she'd accept.
Despite being courted and showered with expensive gifts by a rich man named Bruce, MJ and Peter had a wonderful wedding. After the honeymoon, the newlyweds would have a nightmare come true when Peter would go 2 weeks missing. Peter was really buried underground and came out to the hands of her loving husband.
They moved in together at a luxurious hotel-apartment in Manhattan. Living in the same building was a rich millionaire named Jonathan Ceasar. A man who would become so obssesed with MJ, he'd kidnap her. Ceasar would ultimately be defeated and jailed, but he'd continue to cause havoc for the young couple from jail.
First he'd have them evicted from their apartment on Christmas Eve and MJ would be blackballed from the model business. She'd become an actress on a Soap Opera called "Secret Hospital", but she would ultimately be written out of the show because she wasn't a good actress.
Mary Jane would have her own problems, like dealing with how dangerous it is for her husband or dealing with crazed fans. She would pick up smoking for a brief period, but dropped it when she saw the negative effects of it (the death of Nick Katzenberg). She flirted with a fellow actor once, but in the end, nothing happened. At times, she has been completly ignored by Peter. When Peter would find out that his "parents" who returned, were fake, Peter wouldn't talk about it at all to anyone. She would confront May, about how Peter and May keep burying they're problems, instead of talking about it. When the clone would return a few weeks/months later, this would drive Peter over the edge. Mary Jane would try to be as supportive as possible, but it wasn't enough for Peter. Mary Jane would find out another revelation; she'd become pregnant.
This brought the two together as tighter as ever, for a while, at least until Peter HITS MJ after he finds out he's a clone. Peter would regain his senses and go back to MJ. The couple would go to Portland when Peter hangs up his webs. After Peter lost his powers, JJJ would call Peter back to NY when a skeleton, with a Spider-Man mask on in, would be found in a smokestack. The couple would move back, permanently, to New York City where they would live at May's house in Forrest Hills. When the couple found out the sex of the baby, MJ decided to call it "May" after Peter's then-dead aunt. Then tragedy would strike on a Halloween night.
Mary Jane would lose the baby in a miscarriage (although it has never been confirmed). After that whole ordeal, MJ decided to go back to ESU to study Psychology. There she befriended Jill Stacy, the cousin of Gwen. Starting to get bored from being a student again, MJ decided to go back to being a model again. The modeling world accepted her with open arms.
After seeing how much he is hated in NY, Spidey decided to retire, a decision she would support. A few months later, the couple, with aunt May, would all move into this luxirious Manhattan apartment, payed for by MJ's model money. She really seem to want Spider-Man to stay dead. As of late, Mary Jane has been receiving mysterious phone calls which disturbs her greatly. Hoping to run away from those calls, MJ and Peter were supposed to go on vacation, but Peter missed the flight. This caused to further the rift between the young couple. When she returned, they both came clean about their lies (Peter liying about not becoming Spidey anymore), but MJ decides not to talk about her whole stalker situation.
After turning it up a notch, the stalker takes MJ and tries to blow up a taxi (with both of them in it), but MJ gets away and the stalker supposedly dies in the explosion.
On a trip to Latveria for a photo shoot, tragedy would strike the Parker family once more, as the plane goes down in flames. Mary Jane's body is not found and was believed to be dead. But the reality was that the stalker was a mutant who had merged with Spider-Man's memories and became obssesed with Mary Jane. The stalker was on the plane and managed to kidnap the wife while holding her in seclusion like a prisoner. It wasn't until Spider-Man got ahold of the stalker did we see a happy reunion between the couple.
But it didn't last, as Mary Jane realized that she simply could not continue livng life with Peter without ignoring the past few months, so she and Peter decided to part ways as she left to 'find herself' in California. After starring in a B-movie, a run-in with Doctor Octopus and Doctor Doom, she has since gotten back together with Peter when they realize that they can't live apart from each other, and they put their differences behind them and start anew.
However, as her movie career is floundering, MJ, with the guidance of Ezekiel, realizes that the only way she will get any respect as an actress is to improve her acting abilities. This results in her auditioning for theater plays. She is currently living with Peter again.

Peter Parker As Spiderman

When his parents died as a child, his aunt and uncle were chosen to raise young Peter Parker. He was a softspoken nerd who had a passion for science. But that love caused him to not have many friends. In high school, football star Eugene "Flash" Thompson and the school's most popular girl, Liz Allan, would bully him around.
One day he attended an experiment where a radioactive spider would bite him. That bite would give him the proportionate strength, speed and agility. As well, he can stick to almost any surface with his hands or feet. And finally, he has a "spider-sense" that warns him of coming danger. Peter made a 100 dollars easily when he was able to stay in a wrestling ring for 5 minutes with Crusher Hogan. There, he met Maxie Shiffman who would become Spidey's agent. Spidey started to become a big and famous TV star. When the fame started to go to his head, he avoided stopping a burglar at a TV studio, because "it wasn't my job". That would later haunt him when that same burglar would wind up my killing his beloved uncle Ben. He was so blind with rage, that he went to his room and put on his Spider-Man costume, but who saw him come out of his window ?? Mary Jane. Spider-Man captured the burglar, and from that momen on, he vowed that he will always act responsibly with the great powers that he has.
Peter realized that without Ben, they wouldn't have a lot of money, so Peter would have to continue to be a big TV star, but JJJ shunned the star/super-hero in the Bugle and, suddenly, everyone hated him. Spidey was blacklisted out of the TV business. So now, Spider-Man was only a hero. Forced to get a job to help with the financial situation, Peter would become a photographer for the Daily Bugle while taking pictures of himself, as Spider-Man, fighting criminals and villains.
At work, Peter would meet his first girlfriend Betty Brant, the secretary of JJJ. Together, they'd date for a while. During that time, Liz Allan would learn to grow fond of Peter, and she'd have a crush on him. Betty grew very jealous of Liz and Peter spending so much time together. In the end Peter and Betty would break-up because Betty was turned off of Peter's dangerous lifestyle (taking pictures of villains).

Meanwhile, as Spider-Man he'd meet plenty of super-villains. His first was the Chameleon, and from there he'd meet the Vulture, Doc Ock, Kraven, Sandman, the Tinkerer, Doctor Doom, Electro, Scorpion, Mysterio, Lizard, the Green Goblin and many others. He'd graduate high school with flying colors and he'd receive a science scholarship at Empire State University.
The Green Goblin would strike. The Goblin would be the first one to find out Peter's secret identity, but in return, Spidey found out that the Goblin wasnone other than Norman Osborn (the father of Harry). Due to Norman's bout with amnesia, he'd forget that Peter is Spidey, and that he ever was a super-villain.
In college, he'd meet Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy for the first time. During that time, his aunt has been trying to set-up up Peter with her best friend's niece named Mary Jane. But the two would back-out of blind dates all the time, and it would take them lots of time for them to meet up with each other. When that moment arrived, Peter was breataken and but he would find himself torn between Gwen and MJ. In the end, Peter would choose Gwen. Meanwhile, Peter and Harry would move in together in an apartment in Manhattan. The rent would be paid by Harry's father, Norman.
During their university tenure, Peter and Gwen would have teacher Miles Warren or science. During the time he's dating Gwen, MJ would have her eye on Peter, but he'd hardly notice since he's happy with MJ. During a battle with Doctor Octopus, George Stacy (Gwen's father) would die, he would reveal to the hero that he knew of Peter's double life and he asked Peter to take care of Gwen for him. Peter would attempt to propose to Gwen, but couldn't do it. Peter knew taht Gwen didn't like Spider-Man, and it wouldn't work out. Months later, the Green Goblin would return and kill Gwen Stacy.
This would be a tremendous blow to Peter and his friends. A few hours after her death, Norman would "die" after being impaled by his own glider. Miles Warren, who had an unhealthy fixation towards Gwen, found out that Peter was Spider-Man, cloned a version Peter and Gwen (with the hair samples he had of all his students). Warren would then be known as the Jackal.
The Jackal would introduce to Spidey the vigilante known as the Punisher. After defeating the Punisher, Spider-Man would run into another Green Goblin. Harry's fragile mind snapped due to the deaths of Gwen and his father, and with the drugs still in his system, he became the Goblin. Harry found out that Peter was Spider-Man and he wanted revenge. Spidey defeated his best friend, but in the end he make Harry go see a psychiatrist named Bart Hamilton.
When Warren had created his clone of Spider-Man (and Gwen), Warren would send it to fight the orignal. Peter would battle his clone. An explosion would take place where Peter would assume that the clone was dead so he took the clone's body and put it in a smokestack. The Jackal seemingly died from this explosion.
Back with doctor Hamilton, as Harry was under hypnosis, Hamilton found out that Harry was the Goblin and that Peter was Spidey. Using this knowledge, Hamilton wanted to become a crimelord, so he became the third Green Goblin. Ultimately, Spidey and Harry defeated Hamilton, who persihed in an explosion. Also, Harry's memories of the Green Goblin were all erased.
Ever since Gwen's death, Peter and Mary Jane have realized that they should be going out together. After a some time, he proposed to her. She turned him down saying that she cannot belong to one man, and she left NY for a year. During that time, Spider-Man would meet the cat burglar the Black Cat. He would make such an impression on him that she started to think about reforming. With Mary Jane gone, a romance bloomed. One that lasted for months, even lasted even when MJ came back to NY one year later. In university, Peter did not pass his gym class (due to being Spider-Man, he missed many classes) which would result in him not graduating. Peter decides to try again next semester.
One night, a robbery would be committed and Spidey caught two out of the three criminals. Spidey would give up on searching the third one. The third one, would wind up by finding one of the Green Goblin's hide-outs. The criminal would sell this information of the location to someone (Roderick Kingsley) and that someone would become the Hobgoblin, a villain who would cause lots of trouble to Peter for many months and years (through all of his incarnations).
Deciding that he has way too much to handle in his life, from choosing from Mary Jane and the Black Cat, to web-slinging, Peter decides to drop out of university.
Later, Spidey was chosen to go to the "Secret Wars" (along with other heroes and villains). The Beyonder brought them to this planet and had the two fight for some reason. Having seen other heroes with brand new threads and with his own costume in rags, Peter went to this machine that was supposed to fix his suit, instead it gave him a symbiote that attached itself to him (although Peter though it was some sort of alien suit that was normal for the planet). He returned to Earth with the symbiote. It took him a while for him to take it to Mister Fantastic, who would tell Peter that the costume was a living symbiote. The FF would trap in in a container, to prevent it from doing anymore harm.
In Peter's life, MJ would reveal to him that she knew for a long time that Peter Parker is secretly Spider-Man. From then on, Peter and MJ would brought total honesty between the two. Around that same time, the Black Cat and Spider-Man broke up because the Cat was told that she weas destroying Peter's life by being close to her.
The symbiote would escape the "prison" that the FF made and he'd follow Peter around. It would follow Peter to a church, but due to the sonic sounds from the church bells, the symbiote would supposingly disintigrate.
JJJ would send reporter Ned Leeds and Peter to Germany to cover a story. In Germany, Ned Leeds would die. Ned's hotel room was right next to Peter's. Ned was killed when Wolverine was talking with Peter, so Spidey couldn't help his friend. When he'd return back to the U.S., Spider-Man found out that Ned was the Hobgoblin (which would be a lie).
Peter would propsoe to MJ, once more, and again she'd turn him down, but a few days later, she'd accept. They'd get married, but Peter would almost call the wedding off when he had to let go of his feelings he had for Gwen once and for all. Even on their honeymoon, the newlyweds coulsn't escape the shadow of Spider-Man.
Back in NY, Kraven would return and he had a plan to get revenge on Spider-Man; kill him in which he succeeded to do. Well not really, he'd bury the hero in the ground for two weeks. The effects of that still weighs heavily on Peter's mind. When he got out of the ground, Peter would have to battle Kraven and Vermin. Feeling he had accomplished everything, Kraven shot himself.
A few months later, MJ would be threatened by a man in a black costume. Spidey found out that the thing that threatened MJ was his old symbiote who had bonded with an ex-reporter named Eddie Brock who was fired from his job, because of Spider-Man. Eddie was going to commit suicide, and he went to the church where the symbiote was "disintigrated" so he can pray, but instead the symbiote "bonded". Together they called themselves "Venom". Spidey ended up by defeating Venom with a sonic gun borrowed from the Fantastic Four. Thinking that it was Peter who threatened her earlier, MJ would want Peter to stop wearing the black costume, to which Peter would agree.
Peter would receive the ultimate power of Captain Universe, thus he'd become Cosmic Spider-Man. He'd have the powers of flight, even more strength, and MANY more, but he'd lose all of his powers to save New York from a Tri-Sentinel.
After defeating Venom several times, Venom's symbiote would spawn off a child. That symbiote "bonded" with Eddie Brock's cellmate, Cletus Kassidy. They were called 'Carnage'. Carnage would be more deadly than Venom, since Venom isn't a cold blooded killer, but Carnage is. Spidey managed to defeat Carnage with the help of Venom himself. From there, Peter's life would turn upside down. His parents would return from the dead. Or so Peter would think.
During this time, Harry's mind would snap and he'd turn into the Green Goblin once more. This time, more determined than ever to defeat his former best friend, he took a new and improved Goblin formula, which would wind up by killing him. Later, Peter would then find out that his "parents" were, in fact, robots built by the Chameleon, who was working for Harry Osborn (when he was alive).
This caused Peter to "lose it". He became dark and started to spend a lot of time in this "webbed cocoon" that he made. He became "Spider", and buried the "Man" part in the process. Things got even worse, when he found out that his fragile old aunt May had suffered a stroke during this time. Then Peter went even more off the deep end when he was face-to-face with his own clone, whom he thought was long dead. The final blow was when noted student of the nature of humans, Judas Traveller, forced him into some deep psychological experiments that "disected" him. Traveller and his gang, called the Host, escaped and they were intrigued by Spider-Mand his clone.
Peter would remain dark for a little while longer, but when the villain combination of the Vulture and the Owl injects into him a virus, Peter finds out that he's dying from that virus. Peter would then black out and have massive headaches during this time. Doc Ock attempt to save him, but he'd fail. Peter would then discover that Mary Jane is pregnant.
After discovering this, Ock would find a permanent cure for him. But before Ock could have a chance to fight with the person who's live he saved, Ock would die at the hands of Kaine, the clone's long-time nemesis. The clone would call himself Ben Reilly. The Bugle would name Ben's hero ID, the Scarlet Spider.
Spidey and Scarlet would discover that the Jackal is still alive, and he's playing mind games with both of them (by telling each of them that they're the original, and the other is a clone). That duo would imprison the Jackal in a prison for super villains.
Days after that, aunt May would die, after she revealed to Peter that she knew about his double identity. Months later, Peter would discover that he's a clone, and Ben is the original. After a brief battle to discover who he really is, Peter rejoiced at his life with MJ. From there, Peter would retire from being Spider-Man, and give up the mantle to Ben, and he'd move to Portland with his wife to raise their child. In Portland, an experiment would cause Peter to lose his powers. All was in place so he could live a normal and happy life. Or so he thought.
Peter and MJ would be recalled to NY by JJJ for a job. Soon after, they'd move back to NY once and for all. Peter and Ben would become best freinds and they'd call each other "brother", but a returning Norman Osborn would attempt to take away all of Peter's possesions that he holds dear.
Norman would be the mastermind behind the entire "Clone Saga". He explained that he had a healing factor in the Goblin serum which permitted him to live after the impaling. Norman would manage to kill Ben and possibly kill Peter's daughter, May by causing MJ to have a stillbirth, but he failed at killing all of Peter's friends. In a fight, the Goblin would disappear for months. Peter and Mary Jane continued to live despite all of that they had lost.
Peter would return back to ESU and try to earn his masters in biophysics and MJ started to take psychology. The couple would meet Gwen's uncle Arthur and his children, Jill and Paul, who also go to ESU.
Osborn would stop being the Goblin (but he got someone else to play that role), and he'd pay more attention to being Norman Osborn. He'd buy one half of the Bugle away from JJJ through blackmail. For months, Peter had to live with Osborn watching him like a hawk. Osborn would put a bounty on Spider-Man's head, and force Peter to come up with four new and completly different personas (Ricochet, Hornet, Prodigy and Dusk). Osborn would continue to play mind games on Peter when he'd turn his friend, Flash into an "Osborn sympathiser".
After months of breathing down Peter's neck, Osborn felt it was time for the Gathering of Five, Norman Osborn thought he received "power", but instead he got "madness", which he slowly would turn into. Peter would find out that Osborn had kidnapped aunt May while she was in her coma, and had her replaced with an actress. Peter, with the addition of new public hate for him, decided to quit being Spider-Man, and focus on being Peter Parker.
During this time, MJ had become a model again, and she would really want Peter to stop being a hero. A few months after quitting his "job" as Spider-Man, Peter would move to a luxurious apartment in Manhattan with MJ and his aunt May. Peter still has a job as photographer at the Bugle, but he'd take up another one as a research scientist for the Tri-Corp Research Foundation.
Recently, a new Spider-Man entered the town, and Peter discovered it was a teenage girl named Martha Franklin, a girl who was involved in the Gathering of Five, and she wanted to become Spdier-Man because he was her hero. During a fight with villain named Shadrac (a revamped Override), the new Spidey got her ass handed to her, and Peter, despite MJ's wishes, became Spider-Man once and for all. MJ and Peter were supposed to go on vacation, but Peter missed the flight (due to being Spider-Man). This caused to further the rift between the two. When she returned, they both came clean about their lies (Peter liying about not becoming Spidey anymore), but MJ decides not to talk about it.
On a trip to Latveria for a photo shoot, tragedy would strike the Parker family once more, as the plane goes down in flames. Mary Jane's body is not found and she is believed to be dead. At first Peter deals with this as a trick by some villain, but Peter realizes that she really is gone.
A hard luck Peter loses his job at Tri-Corp and loses his apartment (since MJ's agent stole all of their money). After a few months, Peter starts living with Randy Robertson and becoming close friends with Jill Stacy and Glory Grant. After a few months, Peter finally finds out that the stalker had kidnapped MJ. After defeating the stalker, he was reunited with his wife, but it didn't have a happy ending as Mary Jane felt she could not live life without pretending the past few months did not happen, so she decided to 'find herself' by moving to California for a while. Peter moved out on his own once again while picking up a job as a science teacher at his old high-school, Mid-Town High.
Meanwhile, Spidey meets a villain who is as powerful as he is, Morlun, a guy who 'eats' other people's powers and uses it to re-energize himself. After several nights of the most grueling battle of his life, Peter manages to defeat Morlun. When he returns home, he collapses in his bed, but aunt May enters the room and discovers her nephew's long-time secret. When the two finally meet to have a conversation on this, Peter feels like a giant weight has been lifted off of his shoulders, while May is very proud of her nephew.
After starring in a B-movie, a run-in with Doctor Octopus and Doctor Doom, Mary Jane has since gotten back together with Peter when they realize that they can't live apart from each other, and they put their differences behind them and start anew.

Maximum Carnage

The new symbiote, Carnage, was swiftly defeated and apparently destroyed. Kasady was jailed at Ravencroft Asylum. However, the alien had mutated his blood, and he could generate a copy of the symbiote (this was later retconned so that the alien had survived, and bonded to his blood). Kasady escaped, freeing other superhuman inmates and assembling a 'family' of killers around him. They set their sights on New York. During the murderous onslaught that followed, Carnage recruited Shriek, Doppelganger, Demogoblin, and Carrion to do his bidding, terrorizing New York City with their twisted "family values." Spider-Man and Venom were forced to join together to stop Carnage and his followers. They required the assistance of such disparate heroes as Captain America, Black Cat, Nightwatch, Cloak and Dagger, Iron Fist, Deathlok, Morbius and Firestar. However, both infighting between the villains and a successful rout from the heroes contributed to Carnage's defeat. Venom pushed Carnage into an electrical generator and fled, leaving Carnage to be incarcerated. Read more...

Alien costume and Venom

Spider-Man gets a new black costume in Secret Wars #8.
Art by Mike Zeck. The alien costume, also known as the Black Suit, first made its appearance in sketches found in a Marvel magazine titled Marvel Age #12. These early sketches had Spider-Man in a black costume with a red spider-symbol instead of the version with the white symbol that would later be used. The first comic book appearances of the suit occurred in May of 1984 in Marvel Team-Up #141, Amazing Spider-Man #252, and Spectacular Spider-Man #90.

In these issues there was an abrupt time shift from the issues a month earlier. Spider-Man was now on Earth shortly after the events of the Secret Wars limited series had taken place even though the twelve issue Secret Wars series had just started that month. It would be months before the change to the new costume would be explained. In the Secret Wars limited series, Spider-Man is taken to an alien planet, where he participates in a battle between Earth's greatest heroes and villains. When his suit is destroyed in the fight, Peter sets out to make himself a new one and comes across a machine which conjures him a black suit that responds to his thoughts, greatly enhances his powers, provides him with its own supply of web-fluid, and can change its appearance at his command.

After he returns to Earth, however, Peter discovers that the costume is actually an alien symbiote bent on permanently bonding with its host. Peter eventually rejects and defeats the symbiote, but it merges with reporter Eddie Brock, becoming the villain known as Venom. Brock is imprisoned and removed from his symbiote but then escapes from prison when the symbiote returns. His cell-mate, Cletus Kasady (a serial killer), merges with an infant symbiote that Venom left behind, thus becoming another villain, Carnage. Read more...

SpiderMan History

Peter Benjamin Parker is the son of Richard and Mary Parker, who worked as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and were killed on a mission involving an impersonator of the Red Skull. The infant Peter Parker is left in the care of his Uncle Ben and Aunt May Parker, who live in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, New York. The aging couple love Peter, but he grows to be unpopular among his peers. Between an uncle who is too old to join him in physical activities and an aunt over-protective of the orphaned child, Peter gravitates to more non-physical hobbies such as photography and home chemistry, encouraged in these endeavors by his guardians. Over time, he grows to be a lonely, timid but exceptionally bright teenager who shows more interest in his studies (especially science, which he has an affinity for that is nothing short of genius) than in any kind of social life. He is often the target of jokes by more popular students like Flash Thompson, the high school's star athlete.

Spider-Man's origin story is told in the first 12 pages of Amazing Fantasy #15. Peter Parker attends a science exhibition where he is bitten by a radioactive spider. The spider bite gives Peter an array of spider-like powers, including wall-crawling, superhuman strength, speed and agility, and an extra-sensory "spider-sense". Peter initially sets out to find fame and fortune, winning a match in a makeshift disguise against professional wrestler Crusher Hogan. He attempts to interest a television network in the idea of featuring him as a costumed hero (with the advantage that he can actually do the things his character can), and creates the SpiderMan name, costume, and web-shooters. After quickly becoming a minor celebrity, Peter appears on a television special, but afterward allows a thief to escape the TV station, asserting that it isn't his problem. He comes to regret his inaction when he finds out that the same burglar subsequently killed his Uncle Ben.

Realizing that he could have prevented his uncle's death, the guilt-ridden Peter commits to a life of crime fighting and lifesaving, driven by his uncle's words, "With great power there must also come great responsibility" (the phrase is often shortened to: "With great power comes great responsibility"). This disarming mix of selfless obligation and self-recrimination brought about by his uncle's death arguably makes up Spider-Man's moral core.

In the earliest Spider-Man stories, Peter Parker attends Midtown High School. After his uncle's death, he and his aunt become desperate for money, so he gets a job as a photographer at the Daily Bugle selling photos to J. Jonah Jameson. Peter dates co-worker Betty Brant and clashes with his high school rival Flash Thompson (whose girlfriend, Liz Allen, he informally tutors). Read more...
